The Reason for Skylarks [May. 16th, 2007|05:30 pm]
Your Favorite Poems

It was nearly morning when the giant
Reached the tree of children.
Their faces shone like apples
On the cold dark branches
And their dresses and little coats
Made sodden gestures in the wind.

by John Crowe Ransom
(my slightly flawed recitation on Odeo.com)

Captain Carpenter rose up in his prime
Put on his pistols and went riding out
But had got well-nigh nowhere at this time
Till he fell in with ladies in a rout.

April is National Poetry Month (U.S.) - Hide your daughters! [Apr. 7th, 2007|08:14 pm]
Your Favorite Poems

Ram. Damn. Slicker Sam
stole the crown and away he ran.

The bishops cursed.
The generals swore.
Sam gave the crown to his hot whore.

The ladies wept.
The lords all cried.
The Queen slept
by Sam's side.

Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

My grandmother's dying wish was to publish a book of her poetry, and the day before she died she was told from the publisher that her dream was going to come true. 2 months after she passed away, the book is published.

If we sell 500 hardcopy books, it will appear on the shelves of Barnes and Noble. So please, consider buying this book. It truley is amazing, and it would mean alot to the memory of my Nanny.

I think this book is amazing. It is poetry about spirituality, love, and life. I have grown up around my grandmothers poetry, and I have always found it so emotionally moving and inspiring. I honestly think that others will love it just as I have.

[mood |melancholymelancholy]

Its actually part of a song.

SIMON-by Lifehouse

Catch you breath.
Hit the wall.
Scream out loud as you start to crawl.
Back in you cage,
The only place,
Where they will,
Leave you alone.
Cause the weak will seek the weaker
till they've broken them.
Could you get it back again?
Would be the same?
Fulfilment to their lack of stregth
at your expense.
Let you with no defense they tore it down.
And I have felt the same
as you,
i've felt the same...

it goes on from there but that is just such a beautiful song i just had to share it with you all.
